Stephen Bailey, frontman for Perth slow burning psych purveyors Mt. Mountain has announced his debut solo album
Silo.
Silo is bursting with classic pop cuts - some steeped in sonic revery of Kikagaku Moyo, others in the more sparse, slowcore indie of Galaxie 500.
The first single from Silo will be released on the 11th May 2017, accompanied by a super 8 clip directed by Sam Eastcott.

Mt Mountajn, for all of their distinctiveness, still continue to progress and evolve their sound. This is a sinewy, slightly leaner beast than previous releases. The songs are briefer, slightly more melodic; perhaps the influence of Stephen Bailey’s solo explorations? The songs are still iterations of tension and gloom. Mt Mountain have honed their music into a uniquely powerful form of minimalist psychedelic brutalism. Theirs is a menacing, looping drone, always threatening to explode.

This is some great music for a morose, rainy day. Lush, sedate, bluesy, and with a certain apocalyptic flair, most evident on White Horses, which sounds very much like a psychedelic blues dirge. I appreciate that the songs sometimes lose themselves along the way, giving way to some beautiful psych explorations. I also enjoy the vocals on this - they sometimes waver, but they fit the music so well.
